CNIL’s Public Consultation on Augmented Cameras
The Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL), France's Data Protection Authority, has published a public consultation on its guidelines on the use of augmented cameras in public areas. Such cameras are described by the CNIL as having "automatic image processing" tools, which distinguishes them from biometric recognition equipment. The use of these cameras, according to the agency, might "allow for the extraction of various information from the generated video feeds" and therefore pose substantial threats to individual’s privacy.
The deadline for submissions for the public consultation is March 11th 2022.
Celebrate International Privacy Day
On April 26 2006, the Council of Europe decided to establish what was originally known as Data Protection Day, which is observed annually on January 28th, the date on which the Council of Europe's data protection convention known as "Convention 108" was opened for signature. Data Protection Day is now observed all over the world, and is known as Privacy Day outside of Europe.
ESOMAR will celebrate International Privacy Day by broadcasting a global discussion under the theme “Overcoming privacy issues in the post-Covid era,” on the role of data protection and privacy, and the emerging challenges and opportunities worldwide.
The discussion, hosted by Claudio Gennaro, ESOMAR's Senior Advocacy Programmes Coordinator, will be welcomed and introduced by Finn Raben, ESOMAR's Director General, and Mike Cooke, Chair of ESOMAR's Legal Affairs Committee, and will see the participation of global experts from the research, data and insights community who will share their views about incoming challenges and opportunities.
Keep an eye on our website as we update the full list of panelists.
The event will be broadcasted on January 28th 2022 at 07:30-08:30 and 15:30-16:30 pm UTC.
